Summer Series 1a – G Casino Brighton

The first of the 2011 GUKPT Summer Series festivals was officially held in Brighton (1a), although simultaneously taking to the felt were contenders from Dundee, in the start of the season which will see three pairs of Grosvenor venues running deep-stacked events until the Main Tour restarts with Leg 4 in Luton in August.

Topping the Brighton £500 Main Event field was Dave Mcconachie (pictured top), who won £10,240 after seeing off last year’s GUKPT Rankings winner David Johnson in 2nd place (£7,360).  Mcconachie bested a field of 59 (five of whom took the ‘re-entry’ option new for this year) and earns 60 Ranking Points of his own for doing so.  Third in the Main Event was GUKPT sponsored pro Jeff Kimber – bagging his third cash so far this year – while just behind him were Steve Vigor and Michael Welland (for the full list of payouts from all tournaments, please visit the ‘Results’ tab under each Summer Series Event).

Making the most of the side event action was Xenofon Kalanas, who not only won the £150 No Limit Hold’em freezeout on the 13th of May for £2,100, but was also runner-up in the £200 No Limit Double Chance freezeout which kicked off the week’s festival.  Winning that first tournament was Danny Toffel, who won £2,810, bumping him up the Leaderboard after his second 2011 cash on the tour.

Daniel Buckley rounded up the first Summer Series 1A set of events with his win of the now-traditional £100 No Limit Hold'em Bounty Booster tournament.  Please visit the Gallery tab for images of all of May's Brighton winners.

Bolton and Plymouth will host the second hotly-anticipated round of Summer Series events, beginning on the 9th June, with the £500 Main Event taking place on the 11th-12th.
